Orlando police cruisers collide, injuring 2 officers

ORLANDO, Fla. -

Two Orlando police officers headed to a robbery call were injured late Tuesday night when their patrol cruisers crashed into each other.

The crash happened around 11:55 p.m. on Colonial Drive near Bumby Avenue.

According to Orlando police, the officers were headed downtown when they collided.  One of the cruisers struck a concrete wall on the south side of Colonial Drive while the other patrol car came to rest in the westbound lanes of Colonial.

Both officers were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

The officers involved were Kevin Geschke, who has been with OPD for 8 years, and Officer Theresa Popovich, who has been with the agency for 14 years

Colonial Drive and Bumby Avenue were closed while officials investigated the crash.

No other details were released.
