7-hour standoff ends after man surrenders, Orlando police say

Police say man made threats against ex-girlfriend

ORLANDO, Fla. – An Orlando man surrendered Thursday more than seven hours after barricading himself in a home on Soria Avenue after police said he threatened his girlfriend.

Officers had been attempting to make contact with Raymond Lee Marshall, 30, since 6:30 a.m. for a well-being check after the man made threats against his ex-girlfriend with a gun, police said.

Marshall came home intoxicated at 3:30 a.m. Thursday and threatened his girlfriend, police said. She took her 1-year-old child and went to her father's house. The woman's father reported the threats to police at 6:30 a.m.

When officers arrived, they said they heard a man screaming inside the house and tried to make contact with him.

Orlando police said Marshall had a gun and was alone in the house. The home is in a gated neighborhood.

SWAT arrived at noon to assist with the standoff, and there was a heavy police presence in the area off Semoran Boulevard and La Costa boulevards.

Police said Marshall had not been communicating with law enforcement during the seven-hour standoff that ended at 2:37 p.m. when Marshall surrendered.

Marshall is charged with aggravated assault and failure to appear.

No one was injured in the incident, police said.
