Orlando soccer team finalizing deal with MLS

Orlando, Orange County leaders approve deal for soccer-only stadium

ORLANDO, Fla. - In the very near future, Orlando will become a Major League Soccer city.

Orlando City Lions President Phil Rawlins said Wednesday that the team and MLS are working out a franchise agreement that could be completed "in a few weeks."

The plan to bring MLS to Orlando is full steam ahead after the final funding of a new soccer-only stadium in downtown Orlando was approved by Orange County leaders Tuesday night.

Rawlins said the stadium should be completed in the summer of 2015, during the Lions' first season in MLS.
