According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, authorities were contacted after the girl was dropped off at the Peekaboo Learning Center with a patch over her eye.  Butts told day care workers that the girl had fallen off her bed, according to deputies.

The girl, however, later became upset and was crying, saying her eye hurt, deputies said.  She told a worker that Butts beat her with a belt because she wouldn't eat all her food, according to deputies.

Day care workers said the girl's eye was bruised and swollen shut, said deputies, who added that the girl's ear and back were also bruised.

The Florida Department of Children and Families and Fire Rescue were contacted, and the girl was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando for treatment.

The girl's siblings also told authorities that Butts beat the girl with a belt, according to deputies.

A deputy interviewed Butts, who said her children were prone to exaggerate and she didn't beat her children.

She was arrested and taken to the Orange County Jail.

The age and condition of the girl were not released by deputies.
