Richard Newkirk takes plea deal in death of Bryce Parson

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – An Ormond Beach man who authorities say is responsible for a 14-year-old's death from methadone has been sentenced to 24 years in prison, according to the clerk of courts.

Richard Newkirk, 33, took an agreement for second-degree murder and delivery of a controlled substance, pleaded no contest. He previously faced first-degree murder charges in the death of Bryce Parson, who died in 2011 after drinking water out of methadone bottles found in the trash.
