Lockey went inside his house to retrieve his .357 magnum revolver. When he returned, he shouted at the suspect and told him he had a gun. The culprit began to flee but turned around abruptly. Lockey fired a single shot, and the culprit fled on foot.

Ormond Beach police officers and Volusia County Sheriff's deputies searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect.

It was unclear whether the culprit was injured by the shot.

Because it was dark, Lockey could only describe the intruder as a 6-foot tall man who was wearing a long-sleeved black shirt and blue jeans.

Law enforcement officials urge anyone with information about the incident or suspect to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-277-TIPS.
