KISSIMMEE, Fla. – As the nation marks the tragic day that a gunman opened fire at a Connecticut elementary school, killing 20 children and 6 school workers, Central Florida authorities say they'll be on high alert for school safety.
In Osceola County, police are launching a major effort to keep students safe. School officials say they'll have armed deputies and police in every elementary, middle and high school on Friday.
Threats have continued to come in throughout the week in Central Florida. In Orange County, a bomb threat put one school on lockdown. In Brevard County, all schools in the district were locked down after a threat.
In Orlando, an Islamic school campus added extra security after a woman walked onto school property with a 2-foot sword. Lake County released a statement saying school was still in session on Friday with heightened security measures.
