KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Osceola County officials voted Monday not to spend $100 million to build a new baseball stadium for the Washington Nationals -- a team leaving its current home in Brevard County.
By a 4-1 vote, commissioners decided not to move forward with a plan to build a stadium near U.S. 192 that would have mostly been funded by tourist taxes.
Critics said the cost far outweighed any benefits for Osceola County and worried other tourism projects could suffer if the plan moved forward.
The Nationals released a statement late Monday saying the team will continue to negotiate with other counties in Florida and Arizona.
