Sujatha Guduru, 44, is charged with first-degree premeditated murder, according to Oviedo police. Guduru was interviewed in her hospital room on Monday afternoon where she told police she shot her daughter, Chetana, twice and then turned the gun on herself.
According to police, Guduru said she shot her daughter because she believed there would be no one to care for her after Guduru killed herself. It's not clear why she wanted to kill herself.
"I’m calling from my sister’s house. She shot herself and her daughter. Please come as soon as possible," the 911 caller says.
Guduru is still at ORMC recovering from her self-inflicted wound. Chetana, an International Baccalaureate student at Seminole High School, died at Orlando Regional Medical Center just before 9:30 a.m., police said.
In the 911 call, a man frantically says, "My sister and niece, they're both shot, ma'am. They're both bleeding. Please help. Please, please."
Detectives said they believe Guduru had been planning the murder-suicide for at least a few weeks. Police said Guduru purchased a .38-caliber revolver handgun, which was found at the scene, within the last two weeks.
Guduru also emailed her brother saying she was going to harm herself and her daughter, along with leaving detailed instructions for her estate and what she wished done with it.
