Oviedo residents call for new fire station

Neighbors create online petition after fire destroys family's home on July Fourth

OVIEDO, Fla. – Neighbors in Oviedo have started an online petition, asking Seminole County to move forward with plans for a new fire station.

The call for action started in the Aloma Woods subdivision, after a fire destroyed the home of a family on July 4.

Isabelle Waddell said a lightning strike sparked the fire that left her house a total loss.

Waddell and her neighbor, Corrina Brown, said firefighters told them they could have responded faster if the fire station, which has been planned for years at Aloma Avenue near Dean Road, was operational.

Even the Seminole County fire chief admits the county has outgrown its 18 fire stations. A posting on the county's website said the planned fire station, Fire Station 29, will be built within the next two years.

But Waddell, Brown and many of their neighbors don't believe that's soon enough.

Brown has set up a GoFundMe account for the Waddells for their daily expenses while they make plans to rebuild their home.

The online petition can be found here.
