Oviedo runs over Lyman 60-7 in GOTW

Oviedo, Fla. – If tonight is any indication of how the Oviedo Lions season is going to go, well, then everyone, hang on for a great ride!

The Lions led by head coach Wes Allen are a preseason favorite to do very well in its league this year.

However, opening up against cross-town rival Lyman (Longwood) was supposed to be a close, tough game.

Lyman wanted to get the taste out of its mouths of a 44-0 defeat last year to the Lions. New head coach Jeff Gierke wanted to kickoff his coaching career at Lyman in style.

Well, what Lyman high wanted to do, whether it be on the offense or defense did not happen.

Oviedo capitalized on early turnovers by the Greyhounds scoring touchdowns  and eventually jumping out to a 40-0 lead at halftime. The Lions ground-game was just too much for the Greyhounds to handle this night.

Lions' running backs Tyler Foto and Jurrell Green both had huge holes to run thru all night. Key blocks by Kent Meredith and his O-line helped free a run game that needed to produce to achieve a victory here tonight.

By the start of the second half, the Lions had replaced most of its starters with backup players to get some valuable early season experience.

The Greyhounds did manage to put one score across late in the third quarter but that was all they could muster. The Lions put up another touchdown in the 4th to end the scoring and secure a 60-7 victory.

Oviedo now welcomes in Sanford next week while the Greyhounds will host Lake Howell.
