Oviedo toddler's family wants answers following 'suspicious' death

Five days after a toddler was found dead at the Oviedo home where he lived with his mother, the child's father is looking for answers on how his son died.

News 6 spoke to the 3-year-old's father and grandmother on Thursday.

Oviedo detectives have declared Kameron "Brody" Childs death a homicide and are calling it "suspicious."

The boy was found unresponsive when emergency units arrived at the house on Sharon Court Sunday at 10 a.m., according to police.

"Tell us what happened to Brody," said Syvonne Schelling, the boy's grandmother. "He deserved that!"

Police haven't released much information about how the boy died, only saying he was killed by someone.

Department of Children and Families removed Kameron's 5-year-old sister from the home after his death. She is staying with her father while the mother is being investigated.

"My baby is never going to go to kindergarten. He's never going to play football. He's never going to have children. He's just, he's gone," said Schelling, while standing next to Kameron's father, Enrique Childs.

Kameron's autopsy showed bruises all over his body, the family said.

A neighbor told News 6 he went to check on Kameron after the boy's mother received a call from her boyfriend panicking about the child. Once the neighbor arrived at the house he called 911 and instructed the boyfriend to give the him CPR.

The Kameron's lips were turning blue and visible "marks and bruises" were on his head, said the neighbor.

Family members are now leaning on each other for strength while they plan a funeral for a little boy.

"The little school that my granddaughter goes to, they've been so nice and so helpful," said Schelling. "There is some sweet, beautiful people here in Oviedo, because I don't know if we would have been able to get through this without them."

Childs said the toddler's mother has not responded to their questions about their son's death.

The family has started a GoFundMe account to help raise money for funeral costs.

No arrests have been made in the case.
