PALM BAY, Fla. – An 84-year-old man who vanished late Sunday in Brevard County after going to work on some puzzles has been found dead, according to police.
Alfred "Fred" Mercier was last seen about 7 p.m. as he left his home on Briar Creek Boulevard in Palm Bay, police said. His body was found near a trail off of Briar Creek Boulevard, police said.

"According to his wife, he left their apartment to go across the parking lot to the office (at the apartment activity room) to work on puzzles. She went over to look for him after a couple of hours and couldn't find him," Palm Bay police spokeswoman Yvonne Martinez said in a statement. "The couple's car is still parked at their complex."
