Palm Bay police charge man with bigamy
Court records show man is married to 2 women
A Palm Bay woman checking court records for the status of her pending divorce learned that the man she was leaving had remarried months ago.
Local 6 partner Florida Today reported that the woman complained to Palm Bay police, who arrested Jorge Enrique Guardia. The 32-year-old Palm Bay resident was charged with bigamy and taken into custody without incident at his home, records show.
He was arrested Wednesday and released from the Brevard County Jail Complex after posting bond, records show.
Guardia, who police said was employed with Rockwell Collins, separated from the current wife in May 2009. The woman told detectives that she saw Guardia two months before while shopping at Walmart, but that the issue of the new marriage was not raised, reports show.
The couple, married in 2007 according to Brevard court records, had also been working out a custody agreement for the child they shared, officials reported. Brevard County court records show that the couple went to a court hearing about a marital settlement agreement March.
Detectives talked to the Palm Bay wife and then searched Brevard County court records, which show that Guardia had remarried in August 2012.
Court records show the second wife was a 36-year-old Melbourne woman he married in a ceremony carried out at the Brevard County Clerk’s office at the Melbourne courthouse by a deputy clerk.
It was not immediately known if the older marriage license was reviewed. A new license application by Guardia and the Melbourne woman was reissued May 10. An investigation is ongoing.
