Part of Lake Mary SunRail station to be rebuilt

Platform too close to street, inspectors say

LAKE MARY, Fla. – Local 6 has learned part of one of the new SunRail stations has to be rebuilt after the platform was built too close to another roadway.

SunRail designers say the platform for the Lake Mary station was built too close to Palmetto Avenue, meaning the gates will stay down even after the train has already been pulled into the station.

Crews are demolishing about 25 feet of the platform and moving it to the other side.

Officials said the reconstruction could cost $20,000, but the state said the contractor will pay for its mistake.
