HUDSON, Fla. - A Hudson man is facing animal cruelty charges after authorities say he fatally shot his neighbor's dog.
The Pasco County Sheriff's Office says 55-year-old Matthew Hugh Schnacky shot the 2-year-old black Labrador named Hunter on Sunday when it was about 145 feet away from his front gate.
The Tampa Tribune reports that neighbors and Hunter's owner Randall Patsches described Hunter as gentle and timid.
A neighbor told deputies the dog dropped dead immediately.
There was no word on why the dog was shot.
Schnacky was released from the Pasco County Jail Monday after posting $5,000 bail. It was not clear whether he's hired an attorney.
