HUDSON, Fla. – All patients have been evacuated from Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point in Pasco County after an electrical fire ignited at the hospital Wednesday, officials said.
Officials said as of early Thursday morning the patients have been transferred to area hospitals.
“We will continue to maintain staff and security on site to work toward restoring the full functionality of the hospital just as soon as possible. We will provide another full update tomorrow morning,” officials posted on Facebook.
Pasco and Hernando fire rescue departments responded to the hospital at 14000 Fivay Road in Hudson because of a report of an electrical fire on Wednesday.
Officials said the fire knocked out power to most of the hospital. The fire began in a generator room.
There were 290 patients inside who may have needed to be evacuated. Officials said patients in critical condition were evacuated first.
A request for statewide mutual aid was made for additional help transporting patients.
Officials said 40 ambulances were on their way. Orange County Fire Rescue said it had fueled up units that will be en route to Pasco County to assist with the fire.
