ORLANDO, Fla. – A woman and her son have been named persons of interest in the death of a 1-year-old girl who died from blunt force trauma, Orange County deputies said on Monday.

Carmen Nieves, 63, and her son, Reinaldo Burgos, 37, took the child to a hospital in early September but have stopped cooperating with detectives, officials said.

Burgos was the the boyfriend of the girl's mother at the time the incident occurred, deputies said.

Last month, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said the toddler, identified as Nyana Vargas, died from blunt force trauma to her head and neck.  Nyana was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital on September 6 and died the next day, deputies said.

The girl lived with her mother, who was at work when her child was taken to the hospital, officials said.
