Pet salons pampering pooches for Pulse victims

Groomers across the country raising funds

MAITLAND, Fla. – Pets across the nation are getting pampered and raising money for the victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting.

The sounds of barking, hair dryers, and friendly greetings welcome you inside Shear Magic's Feeling Groomy pet salon. The pooches are spending their Sunday getting pampered for a good cause.

"This is what we do everyday. This is what we love to do," store manager Jenifer Krupienski said.

This salon is just one of dozens across the country participating in Paws for Pulse. It is a daylong washing and grooming fundraiser where all the proceeds go to Equality Florida who will give it to the Pulse victims.

Krupienski says it could be a long and "ruff" day. They are hoping to see as many dogs as possible and they set their fundraiser goal pretty high.

"How many dogs to you have to wash and groom to raise $5,000?" News 6 asked.

"Well, it's going to depend on the size, but a lot," she said. "But that's OK, we're up for the challenge."

From small dogs to big dogs, it is no barking matter. Pet owners say this is a great way to take care of their pooches while taking care of our community, who is still suffering weeks after the attack.

"It shows the support for everybody. Just makes a big difference. Every little bit helps," customer Jim Travis said.

"It's a senseless tragedy and should have never ever happened. But it's great that organizations like this can all pull together, companies can all pull together and make something positive out of it," customer Tracey Payne said.

Because no matter if we're human or walk on four legs, we all have a pulse and we all want to help.
"We feel good about doing it. The owners are doing what's best for their dogs and raising money at the same time and the dogs are seeing the benefit as well," Krupienski said.
