Brevard County Sheriff's deputies issued an alert to the public about a telephone scam in which callers pretend to be a family member or friend in order to get money.
According to the Brevard County Sheriff's Office, the caller says they have been arrested in a different country or state and need bail money. Deputies say the victims may believe the scammer because they usually have personal information that's been gathered from social media networks.
Deputies urged the public to be on alert.
Anyone with information about anyone using the scam is asked to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
