Pilot seriously injured in Putnam County plane crash

Plane crash-landed after engine failed, pilot said

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. – A man was seriously injured Monday when the 1977 Model 152 fixed-wing airplane crash-landed in a heavily wooded marsh area south of State Road 26 and west of State Road 100 in Putnam County.

The pilot, Abdulaziz Fawzi Qoutrah, 20, of Daytona Beach, said the plane's engine failed while en route from Ormond Beach to Gainesville. The crash happened at 4:54 a.m.

Qoutrah was extricated from the plane by Putnam County Fire Rescue officials and flown to UF Health with serious injuries. He was alone in the plane.

The incident is still under investigation.
