Pizza Hut delivery driver robbed at gunpoint in Daytona Beach

Thief offers stolen pizza to witness as he flees

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Dayton Beach police are hoping surveillance images will help locate a man believed to have robbed a pizza delivery driver at gunpoint.

The robbery happened just before midnight Sunday outside the Pizza Hut at 832 N. Nova Road.

A 23-year-old employee told police that the man walked up to his car as he was leaving for a delivery.

The report said the gunman told the victim, "Give me all your money, pizza and Mountain Dew. You aren't gonna die tonight."

Police said the assailant got away with the pizza, soda and $20 in cash. The victim was not injured.

"Poor guy. He was just trying to make a few bucks and that's what happens," Bob Thomas, a shopper at the strip mall where the Pizza Hut is located, said. "You have to be careful these days. You never know. It's bad. I mean, people are desperate these days. They need money for whatever, and that's what happens -- both sides. He's working hard, somebody else is just stealing hard."

John Chester said he was born and raised in the neighborhood, and is now studying criminal justice. Chester said anyone with information should speak with investigators.

"I hope someone actually comes up and tells the truth, and stop just saying, 'Stop snitching.' It's not a bad thing," Chester said. "Be honest. If you know who it was, tell the truth. I don't care."

Another witness told police that as the robber ran off, he even offered some of his stolen pizza to him. The witness said he declined the offer.

Pizza Hut did not immediately offer a comment on the robbery.
