A small airplane that departed Ormond Beach with four people on board crashed near the Freeport Bahamas Airport, according to officials.
The Federal Aviation Administration reported the crash to the Coast Guard around 11 a.m. Monday.
Royal Bahamas Police Force said four people on board were killed and their bodies were recovered Monday afternoon. Police haven't released their identities.
According to the Miami Coast Guard, the Cessna 340, which was registered in the United States, left Ormond Beach Municipal Airport and was en route to the Bahamas. Authorities said the plane lost communication with the control tower at Grand Bahama International Airport in Freeport around 10:40 a.m. and crashed into the ocean.
No other details were immediately known.
Officials initially reported that three people were aboard the plane.
