MELBOURNE, Fla. – Two men who chased and threatened passersby while dressed as creepy crowns over the course of several days have been charged, according to the Melbourne Police Department.
The first incident was reported on Oct. 15, when police received two separate calls about a man dressed as a clown who would approach victims and begin yelling death threats. The clown would then chase the victim while threatening him or her with a large bat or stick, police said.
A nearly identical incident was reported on Oct. 20. Just like in the previous incident, the suspect was gone before police arrived.
The Melbourne Police Department worked with members of the Community Response Team to identify 18-year-old Christopher D. McCarthy and 20-year-old Nicholas Antonellis as the men responsible.
The men haven't been arrested but McCarthy has been charged with aggravated assault and Antonellis has been charged with principal to the crime in the first degree.
Several other clown incidents have been reported in Brevard County this year starting in January when three men in clown makeup attempted to rob a woman in Cocoa, Florida Today reports.
