Police arrest three men for multiple armed burglaries in Mount Dora

Tips help lead police to thieves in Mount Dora

MOUNT DORA, Fla. – After weeks of investigating, Mount Dora Police have arrested three men who are accused of breaking into an elderly couple's home on three separate occasions.

The suspects have been identified as Benjamin Wilson, Kevin Wilson and Zachary Schmidt. Police said the group stole more than $6,000 in cash and other valuables. They were also armed with a handgun at the time, officials said.

"We contacted the victims this morning, and they were relieved as you can imagine. They haven't been able to sleep," Chief John O'Grady said.

He said they never would've caught these men without surveillance video from the victim's home and tips from Crimeline. He said that service has been extremely valuable to law enforcement.

"We had several good tips and some of them came back on these three which helped narrow the focus down," he said.

O'Grady said all the suspects have criminal histories, and it doesn't appear they have any personal ties to Mount Dora.

Detectives are also checking to see whether the group could be linked to other crimes reported around Lake County. Right now, they're only facing charges for the armed burglaries in Mount Dora.
