Police: Car thieves offered girl $100 to hide in her home

Deputies investigate Rockledge crime

ROCKLEDGE, Fla. – Rockledge police arrested two adults and a teenager who they say led them on a chase after stealing a car and then tried to bribe their way into a girl's home.

The incident started Monday afternoon when three culprits stole a car in Cocoa Beach, authorities said.

Police chased the stolen car into Volusia County before the assailants turned around and drove to Rockledge.

Police said the culprits ditched the car and ran.  Officers managed to catch one of them, but the other two managed to get away.

Police said the duo ran to a home where a 16-year-old girl was watching her 3-year-old brother.  The teen told Local 6 that one of the culprits tried to bribe her.

"He tried to pay me $100 to hide him, but there was no way," Sunstone said.

The assailants then barged their way into the home, police said.  Officers used tear gas to get them to come out and they were arrested.

Sunstone and her brother were not injured.

Officers said they found stolen merchandise inside the stolen car.
