DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A man is in the hospital after Daytona Beach police officers shot at him after they say he tried to run over them with his car, according to police.

Officers said an unmarked police car pulled over the car around 2:30 p.m. Thursday. The driver reportedly cooperated with police until he backed up his car, nearly running over two officers.

Police opened fire on the car, hitting it several times.

The car traveled about a mile away, coming to a stop at the dead-end of Bobbie Lee Drive, where the driver got out of the car, ran off and eventually sought treatment for gunshot wounds.

Police said no officers were injured.

Police spent the afternoon at the car and at the scene of the shooting where they collected evidence.
