Police: Teens break into Groveland mansion, take selfies

Cops also investigating July break-in at same home

GROVELAND, Fla. – Police are investigating after four teenage girls who were caught on camera breaking into a Groveland mansion earlier this month and taking "selfies."

The break-in was reported at a 30,000-square-foot home off Villa City Road on Sept. 9.

"Basically the girls are walking through the house," said Sgt. Stephanie Cruz. "They're taking photographs with their phones. They even looked at the camera multiple times. We believe that they were basically trespassing."

Police said on Monday the girls had been identified and the investigation is ongoing.

Authorities are also still investigating another break-in that occurred in July at the same home.

In that incident, two women and a man with a gun were walking around in the home, but they haven't released information on how the culprits broke in.

"It doesn't look like kids messing around," Cruz said. "The male in the video is actually carrying a long rifle, which is a concern and actually ups the danger for our community a lot more."

Police said they're investigating if the cases are connected. Those culprits have not been identified.

"It's actually pretty brazen because we do regular secure checks at that property at the request of the homeowner," Cruz said. "So it's just happenstance that they happen to be up there when the officer wasn't."
