ORLANDO, Fla. - Police are investigating after a 55-year-old woman says she was knocked unconscious by a burglar and woke up bound with duct tape in her home with a gash on her head.
Police are calling the burglary random, which has Micholina Oliverio -- who just moved in -- on edge.
"It's really scary a lot of time, I come home and I am by myself," said Oliverio. "It's something to worry about."
Police spent the early morning hours Sunday collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses.
The woman had just gotten home from work and was grabbing her keys to walk her dog when an unknown person struck her from behind.
She woke up bound with duct tape in her home with a gash on her head, authorities said.
Investigators said the woman came out of the Metro West Apartment still bound looking for help and pulled the fire alarm for assistance. Neighbors called 911.
"We always have the door locked, that's for sure, and they do have security but haven't set it up. Now we will that's for sure."
Police said stolen from the house was a flat screen TV, bottles of perfume and a safe containing jewelry and Brazilian currency.
At this time, police have little leads. They are still looking for the person responsible, but don't have a description to release to the public.
Police said possible entry into the woman's apartment was through the back window of her downstairs apartment.
People who live in the Amaura complex say the gates have been broken and have remained open for several weeks.
Local 6 spotted surveillance cameras around the property and detectives said they hope the property management have video to catch whoever is responsible for what they call a brazen attack.
