Police: Titusville teen shoots, kills father of 13

First-degree murder suspect being held on no bond

TITUSVILLE, Fla. – A Brevard County teen faces life in prison or the death penalty if he's convicted in the murder of a man he was living with.

Marquis Cook, 18, faced a judge for the first time Monday.

Police arrested Cook Sunday in connection with the shooting death of 44-year-old Greg King.

Police went to a residence in the 3800 block of Essex Street after 2 a.m. Saturday regarding a man who was shot.

The victim, identified as King, died a short time later, police said.

The incident stemmed from a disturbance between known individuals, police said.

Police said they arrested Cook after they conducted a traffic stop on a car they believed he was a passenger in. He was taken into custody without incident.

Monday, a judge agreed with police, finding probable cause for the teen's arrest and first-degree murder charge.

Police say King was a father of 13 and was dating Cook's mother.

Cook was on house arrest and probation at the time of the shooting.

Those charges stemmed from the teen's arrest record before he turned 18, including attempted armed-robbery.

Cook is being held on no bond and will be represented by the Public Defender's Office.

His arraignment is scheduled for Oct. 6.
