Man kidnaps, rapes woman from hospital parking lot, police say

Tried to pin the encounter as Craigslist fantasy, police say

OCALA, Fla. – A man was arrested on Monday in connection to the kidnapping and raping of a woman on Sunday night as she pleaded for him to let her live, the Ocala Police Department said.

Robert Lee-Terrell Hicks was at the West Marion Hospital with his girlfriend when he found a victim sitting in her vehicle in the parking lot, police said.

A woman told police that she was eating a quick snack in her car on Sunday night in the parking lot when she noticed a man in a Jeep Cherokee parked next to her.

The man got out of the Jeep and opened her door, the woman told police.

"You know what I want to get into the back seat," the woman told police that Hicks said to her.

According to the report, the woman told police that Hicks flicked his cigarette into her car and she still had her seat belt on, and she honked her horn and screamed for help.

Officials said Hicks pulled the woman from her car and knocked her to the ground. The woman told police she tried to fight back, and Hicks slammed her head into the pavement.

Hicks then placed the woman into his girlfriend's stolen 1996 white Jeep Cherokee, police said.

After that, Hicks moved the woman's car to another part of the parking lot and drove off with her in the back seat of the Jeep, the woman told police.

The victim stated that she was facedown with her hands behind her back, and she was later zip-tied.

Hicks raped, choked and hit the woman in a wooded area over the course of several hours, police said.

Hicks told the victim that he was going to kill her and he was going to set the vehicle on fire to destroy the evidence, police said.

The victim told police that she began to talk to Hicks so he wouldn't kill her. Initially, she asked Hicks to take her home but then asked him to just take her back to the emergency room, police said.

Before taking the woman back to her car, Hicks stopped by a gas station and asked for water, police said.

Hicks brought the woman back to the hospital but asked if there were cameras, the police said.

The woman told Hicks that she didn't know, and Hicks dropped her off by her car, police said.
Hicks went into the woman's car and used her cellphone, telling the victim that he need to make a call, police said.

The woman told police Hicks has stolen her earrings, a gold bracelet and her keys.

Officers said Hick's girlfriend told police that a friend called her and told her that Hicks showed up to his house driving her Jeep and was sleeping on the couch.

Hicks then went from one friend’s house to sleep at another friend's house, where he came up with a story about Craigslist raping fantasy, police said.

A man called officers stating that Hicks had come to his house and told him a story about raping women and that he set up the encounter on Craigslist.

The victim told police that she has never browsed personal ads on Craigslist.

The man told police that Hicks showed up to his home wearing only shorts; no shoes or shirt. Hicks asked the man if he could leave his Jeep on his property and take him to a truck stop, where he could catch a ride to leave town, the report said. The man told police that Hicks mentioned that he needed to cut out the seat belts in his Jeep because they had blood on them.

Hicks’s girlfriend told police she had found pornographic searches on her phone about “raping of animals” and “raping of women.”

The woman told officers she confronted Hicks about the searches, and he told her that it made him feel better to search for those things.

Officers confronted Hicks at the home where Hicks spent the night, and he was arrested and charged with one count of sexual battery, one count of kidnapping and one count of robbery.

He has no bond for the sexual battery charge, a $30,000 bond for the kidnapping charge and a $5,000 bond for the robbery charge, officials said.
