Woman arrested on aggravated child abuse charges

ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando police arrested a mother on child abuse charges after they say she hit a  7-year-old child with electrical cords and a hammer.

Latresa Johnson, 31, was arrested on Thursday on aggravated child abuse charges after police received reports that she was abusing a child by hitting him with her fists, electrical cords, sticks and a hammer, according to a report.

Police said when they arrived to the Timbersound Apartments, they said they heard Johnson tell two children to hurry up or she was going to hurt them. When police asked one of the children what was wrong, and the boy replied that he was hit with a hammer, to which Johnson replied, "stop lying."

The victim was taken to the Arnold Palmer Hospital for his injuries. The child has been put in Department of Children and Families custody.
