KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Kissimmee police are asking parents to talk to their children about how to stay safe walking to school and never to approach a vehicle.
This warning comes after officials said a "suspicious person" exposed himself to a 10-year-old girl and asked another girl what color underwear she was wearing.
Police said the two incidents occurred on Thursday and Friday near Kissimmee Elementary School on Donegan Avenue.
Officers said one girl was approached at 8 a.m. Thursday by the man driving a white SUV while she was walking to school. The man yelled to get the girl's attention and then exposed himself before driving off.
While interviewing the victim, police said another 10-year-old girl told officer a white SUV drove slowly by her on Friday morning and asked her the color of her underwear before driving off.
Both victims described the man as a thin Hispanic male in his late 20s or early 30s with a thin goatee.
Parents in the area say they're glad to see security beefed up.
"It scares me, because I don't want that to happen to my child," said parent Jennifer Muschal. "I don't want anybody exposing themselves to my child."
Some parents said incidents like this are what prevents them from letting their children walk to school.
"My daughter never walks and if she does I'm with her," said Carol Figueroa. "That's exactly why I don't allow my daughter to be by herself at all."
"I don't even want to get out of my house. I don't even want to go out," said Kissimmee mom Melanie Montes. "I don't even want to send my kids to school that's really, really bad. That's how bad it is."
Parent Brian Zollo says he was mortified when he was notified about the latest incident from his child's teacher Friday afternoon.
"As parents, you do nothing but worry about your children," said Zollo. "I mean, you never stop worrying about your children."
The suspicious person search marks the second incident with a flasher in the last two weeks. On Sept. 12, police said a man grabbed a 17-year-old girl at a bus stop and exposed himself to her. That man is still on the loose, but Kissimmee police told Local 6 they don't believe the two incidents are related.
