As the race for the White House heats up, Former President Bill Clinton is becoming a familiar face on the campaign trail.
As Tory Dunnan explains, some comments he's made recently are raising some eyebrows.
--REPORTER PKG-AS FOLLOWS --
IT'S NO SECRET PRESIDENT CLINTON IS A HIGH PROFILE SUPPORTER FOR PRESIDENT OBAMA.
THE TWO RECENTLY ATTENDED A SERIES OF FUNDRAISERS TOGETHER IN NEW YORK AND CLINTON DID WHAT MOST OF OBAMA'S ALLIES DO: WENT AFTER MITT ROMNEY.
The Romney Republican plan is austerity and more unemployment now and blow the lid off later.
BUT JUST DAYS BEFORE THAT FUNDRAISER - CLINTON CAUGHT MANY PEOPLE OFF GUARD WHEN HE HAD THIS COMMENT TO SAY ABOUT ROMNEY'S RECORD.
There's no question that in terms of getting up and going to the office and, you know, basically performing the essential functions of the office, the man who has been governor and had a sterling business career crosses the qualification threshold.
THOSE COMMENTS CAME JUST AFTER THE OBAMA CAMPAIGN RELEASED ADS GOING AFTER ROMNEY'S TIME AS HEAD OF BAIN CAPITAL.
they made as much money as they could and then closed it down and filed for bankruptcy
THEN THIS WEEK-ON CNBC - CLINTON HAD THIS TO SAY WHEN ASKED ABOUT EXTENDING THE BUSH-ERA TAX CUTS.
I don't have any problem with extending all of it now.
PRESIDENT OBAMA IS CLEARLY OPPOSED TO EXTENDING THE CUTS TO THE WEALTHIEST AMERICANS.
A CLINTON SPOKESMAN LATER TRIED TO CLARIFY BUT THAT DIDN'T STOP REPUBLICANS FROM SEIZING THE MOMENT.
Even Bill Clinton came out for it, before he was against it.
--REPORTER ON CAM TAG--
THOUGH AT TIMES THE TWO MAY SEEM TO BE ON DIFFERENT PAGES, CLINTON IS A STRONG ALLY FOR THE PRESIDENT.
CLINTON MIGHT BE ABLE TO HELP OBAMA GAIN SUPPORT AMONG WORKING CLASS, WHITE MALES IN BOTH SOUTHERN AND RUST BELT STATES.
IN WASHINGTON. I'M TORY DUNNAN. BACK TO YOU.
