Charlie Crist's strategy for general election

Democrats unite after primary election

ORLANDO, Fla. – Just two days after the primary election, Democratic leaders united in Orlando -- the first time the party has ever united so quickly.

"This kind of unity doesn't ordinarily happen in the Democratic Party," Charlie Crist, the Democratic candidate for governor told the crowd. "Well it's a new day," he said

Crist was even joined by Nan Rich, his opponent in the primary election. Unity seems to be part of the Democrats and Crist's strategy heading into the general election.

"It's great to start unifying today from the get go. And God bless you Nan Rich for doing that," Crist said.

Both Crist and Gov. Rick Scott sailed through their primary races with no problems.

But a recent Quinnipiac Poll suggested Florida voters were lukewarm about both front runners, which could have had a hand in the low turnout Tuesday.

Only 17.6 percent of registered voters cast a ballot

Local 6 asked Crist how to fix that.

"Just reintroduce ourselves, you know just get around the state campaign hard, get on all their neighborhoods and just keep working it," he said.
