Former Ambassador Nancy Soderberg makes bid for congressional district 6

District serves Volusia, Flagler counties

DeLAND, Fla. – Nancy Soderberg, former ambassador to the United Nations, officially announced on Wednesday that she's running for Florida's 6th congressional district, which serves Volusia and Flagler counties.

Soderberg, the current director of the public service leadership program at the University of North Florida, announced her candidacy at an event in DeLand.

Soderberg said she's concerned about the direction the country is taking.

"Talking to people here, they want to know why they can't get a good job, why their children can't stay here, how can they afford healthcare and a good education," she said. "And (those are) the issues I'm focusing on."

The state's 6th congressional district stretches from the southern Jacksonville suburbs to New Smyrna Beach and includes the city of Daytona Beach.

Currently, the seat is held by U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis (R–Palm Coast).

Soderberg was the third-ranking official on President Bill Clinton’s National Security Council and owns a small consulting company.
