Former homecoming king, football captain runs for office as woman

Woman could become first transgender commissioner in Orange County

ORLANDO, FLA. – A former homecoming king and captain of the football team is running for Orange County commissioner as a woman.

Gina Duncan is running for commissioner in District 5, which is currently Ted Edward's seat.

If Duncan wins, she would be the first transgendered commissioner in Orange County history.

When asked about the potential historical significance of her campaign, Duncan said, "I understand and I acknowledge the potentially historic aspect of this, but I also think it's important to note there's a lot of work to be done for citizens of Orange County and for our children."

Duncan spent 31 years in the mortgage banking industry and opened her own small travel business.

Gina Duncan was born as Greg Pingston and was married and has two children.

In 2006, Pingston had surgery to become Gina Duncan.
