Miami-Dade County became the first place in Florida to allow same-sex couples to marry on Monday, half a day before a gay-marriage ban that has been ruled unconstitutional is lifted in the rest of the state. Here's a look at the path same-sex marriage has taken across the country.

Connecticut began issuing same-sex marriage licenses in 2008 following a state Supreme Court decision in favor of eight gay couples who were denied marriage licenses.
