15-year-old faces murder charge in Mulberry

MULBERRY, Fla. –  A 15-year-old Central Florida boy has been charged with murder after authorities say he shot his mother's live-in boyfriend during a confrontation.

A Polk County Sheriff's Office news release said the shooting occurred early Wednesday morning, shortly after midnight, at their Mulberry home.

The teen told authorities that Paul Gregg Jr., 37, began yelling at the teen's mother and threatening her when they returned home that night. He said he was worried that Gregg might hurt her, so he retrieved a 12-gauge shotgun from his room, according to deputies.

When Gregg went to the master bedroom, where several guns were kept, authorities said the teen shot Gregg in the back, killing him.

The teen left the home, and his mother called 911.
