PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. -

Don't be alarmed if you hear gunshots at Port Canaveral on Thursday.

According to Naval Ordinance Test Unit spokesman Steve McConnell, NOTU is hosting the Coast Riverine Squadron 10 and its 2014 annual training exercise, Local 6 news partner Florida Today reports. The exercise will continue daily through Aug. 6, excluding Sunday.

"It's where they practice port security before they go overseas and do it in real world situations," McConnell said.

The exercise, which will run from noon to 6 p.m. daily, will include the firing small-arm blank ammunition throughout the five-day event.
