Coast Guard investigating incident

PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. – The Coast Guard is investigating how the Port Canaveral Pier sustained $500,000 worth of damage over the weekend as the cleanup continues on Tuesday.

According to Port Canaveral officials, the Sunday incident caused pier damage and scattered concrete debris in the harbor.

Damage to a bollard structure south of North Cargo Pier 2 will cost $500,000 to repair and will take up to three months to replace, officials said.

North Cargo Pier 3 was also damaged, according to officials.

The damage comes as Port Canaveral harbor is currently under construction to accommodate larger cruise and cargo ships.

Although cargo operations will be impacted, port officials say cruise ships will be able to pass safely.
