PORT ORANGE, Fla. - Port Orange police charged a man with false imprisonment and child neglect after officers say he barricaded himself and two children in his home.
Police said a call came in at around 4 p.m. Tuesday that 31-year-old Jamie Cook, believed to be armed, was making suicidal threats and barricaded himself inside of a house near Sydney Street and Wood Street. Half a dozen homes were evacuated in the area for safety purposes, police said, as there were reports of Cook being possibly armed and intoxicated.

"It sounded like he was hurting his stepchildren and for the last two hours he's been threatening to kill himself and killing other people," Cook's brother told dispatchers. "He kept asking me over the phone if I wanted to hear a gunshot."
Police said two of Cook's girlfriend's children were in the home with him. At 5:30 p.m. one of the children left the house unharmed and the other 9-year-old child remained in the home with Cook as he spoke to the police negotiator.
At 8:30 p.m. the 9-year-old left the house unharmed and was also reunited with his mother, according to the report. Cook willingly left the home 20 minutes later and was arrested by Port Orange police.
"I'm just so glad that they're OK because I really thought he was going to kill him," said the 9-year-old's father, Roger Kolb. Kolb said he will be filing a restraining order as soon as possible to keep his children away from Cook and is in the middle of a custody battle with the children's mother.
Local 6 has learned Cook has been arrested at least 9 other times in Volusia County for charges ranging from violating a domestic violence injunction to felony battery.
Cook was taken to Volusia County Jail on a no-bond status. He will go before a judge at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Corrections officers told Local 6 Cook was giving them trouble after he was booked. They even struggled with him to take his picture, which was finally posted to the jail's website just before 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.
