Port Orange officials delay sending bills to customers

Recent utility issue cause accuracy check to water bills

PORT ORANGE, Fla. – Thousands of residents in Volusia County won't get their water bills this month because Port Orange officials are delaying the October bills to check their accuracy.

The delay comes as a response to a slew of recent utility problems in which a rate change was entered incorrectly into the computer, causing the city nearly a million dollars.

The city also learned meter readers were reading the wrong meters in the Spruce Creek Fly in community resulting in customers being overcharged $500,000.

The city said because of the billing delay, payment due dates will be extended. The bills are expected to be mailed out on Monday.
