EATONVILLE, Fla. - Utility crews are repairing several power poles on Wymore Road that came crashing down on two cars Friday afternoon.
Bradley Quereau tells Local 6 he was driving in his mini cooper, when the power pole hit his side window. He says he didn't stay in the car because there was nothing to protect him and wires were sparking. So instead, he jumped out and ran as fast as he could. He was able to escape with no injuries.
Carolyn Winston and her son Addison Sims were also on Wymore when they all of a sudden, a power pole came crashing down on their Mercedes.
"It was God's miracle that brought us out because there were sparks flying from the line, that came down all around the car," said Winston.
"The pole just fell, power line hit the top of the car, knocked in the sun roof. We saw sparks flying everywhere," said Sims. "We didn't want to get out of the car."
They called 911, but were trapped in their car for 20 minutes as utility crews worked to turn off the power making it safe for an emergency crew to rescue them.
They said they spent that time praying.
"I can't tell you what its like to be trapped in a car with live power lines, sparks flying and all you can rely on is your faith," said Winston.
Crews not only have to remove two poles that were destroyed in the storm, but fix a third pole that is leaning towards the road.
"We really do believe those cars were surrounded by some force of angels and that's the only way things turned out the way they did."
Eatonville police told Local 6 Wymore Road near Kennedy Road will be closed Friday night as crews work to repair the scene.
