Pregnant mom's CrossFit photos create backlash online

Photos show mom doing CrossFit workout

Ellison posted this photo taken by Nick Stern on CrossFit's Facebook page.

Exercise is recommended during pregnancy, but one mom is getting a lot of backlash online after posting pictures showing her going through a CrossFit workout eight months pregnant.

According to the Huffington Post, Lea-Ann Ellison posted the above photo on CrossFit's Facebook page, saying: "8 months pregnant with baby number 3 and CrossFit has been my sanity. I have been CrossFitting for 2 1/2 years and ... strongly believe that pregnancy is not an illness, but a time to relish in your body's capabilities to kick ass."

That Facebook post has now gotten more than 1600 comments, many of which criticized the mom for doing such a strenuous workout, saying she could be putting her baby in danger.

These are some of those posts:

"If anything happens to your baby due to your stupidity, I hope you'll be able to handle your guilt. Pregnancy is NOT the time to be taking stupid risks."

"You may have mastered the squat but need to work on motherhood ..8 months doing an overhead squat really??!!!"

But supporters said Ellison has clearly stated she's been doing the workout for two and a half years, and because she's such a fitness devotee, as long as she listens to her body, there is nothing wrong with continuing to work out.

Doctors said nothing is wrong with exercise during pregnancy, but also said women should speak to their doctors before beginning any such program, especially if they don't already participate in a fitness program.
