President Obama discusses George Zimmerman verdict

Obama talks Trayvon Martin death with Jay Leno

President Barack Obama addressed Trayvon Martin's death and the acquittal of George Zimmerman on "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno on Tuesday night.

During the show, Obama joked with Leno about a number of topics, including health care and NSA spying. But Obama took a serious tone when Leno brought up the trial and its verdict.

"You're a teenager, especially a teenage boy, you're going to mess up," said Obama. "We all know that young African American men disproportionally have involvement in criminal activities and violence. But what was also believed in is that everybody should be treated fairly and the system should work for everyone."

Obama said he just hopes to start a conversation and look at the laws in place to prevent violent encounters.
