DOJ awards state $8 million to assist Pulse victims, first responders

Funding will provide grief counseling to victims, witnesses, first responders

ORLANDO, Fla. – The U.S. Department of Justice announced Monday that the Florida Office of the Attorney General and the Florida Department of Legal Affairs will be given over $8 million to help the victims of the June 12 Pulse nightclub shooting.

The funding will help to provide aid to victims of the mass shooting with grief counseling for victims, witnesses and first responders. Additionally, the money will reimburse the Family Assistance Center for costs to help provide relief in the wake of the shooting.

“I am thrilled that my office will receive additional funding to help victims of the Orlando attack,” said Attorney General Bondi in a statement released on Tuesday.  “I want to thank the U.S. Department of Justice for awarding us the funds we requested so that we can continue to make payments and assist victims in any way possible.”

This announcement comes on the same day that Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer spoke on a panel entitled, "Resiliency in the Face or Terrorism" at a South by Southwest conference in Austin Teas about how cities respond to terrorism.
