Where will the OneOrlando Fund money go?

ORLANDO, Fla. – Wanting to donate to the Pulse shooting victims but not sure where it's going? News 6's Louis Bolden got results asking when the victims will be receiving money from the OneOrlando fund.

Regions Bank and Chili's restaurant are the latest two corporate sponsors to donate funds to the Pulse nightclub shooting victims.

The OneOrlando Fund is now more than $8 million, but News 6 has learned that money has not been dispersed to victims and won't be anytime soon.

"The OneOrlando Fund is about being able to distribute funds to victims directly that is not going to address needs that people have now or in the coming days or weeks, that's going to take some time," said Matt Broffman with the city of Orlando.

Broffman says the city is figuring out legally how to handle the funds and come up with a process for victims to collect.

One victim was told it could be up to a year before anyone sees any of the money from the OneOrlando fund.

In the meantime, victims like Norman Casiano, who was shot twice in the nightclub, are waiting and starting their own GoFundMe pages in the meantime.

Another major fund is the GoFundMe page for Equality Florida, which is now up to nearly $5.7 million. The executive director says they are trying to get funds to victims for immediate assistance and that the first step is for victims to register online.

"There are some short term emergencies that we are working with victims on and then there is the long term medical costs," said Nadeen Smith with Equality Florida. "Our hope is to exhaust all of the money in the account within  the next 6 months."
