SWAT teams surrounded the Mercedes-Benz sport utility vehicle involved in the crash, then opened driver's side door. Several SWAT team vehicles then backed away.

Sources told WPLG that the driver committed suicide.

Miami-Dade police say the police pursuit began after two women were shot inside a home in the 12300 block of Southwest 190th Street. Sources said the shooting was domestic related.

One of the shooting victims described the gunman and his vehicle, helping officers find him, detectives said.

At least one of the shooting victims was airlifted to a nearby hospital. Conditions of the two women weren't immediately released.

The driver headed north on Krome Avenue, then U.S. 27, where the car ran a red light at Griffin Road just before 10 a.m. and hit another Mercedes-Benz at the intersection. At least one person was ejected from the second Mercedes-Benz.

Officers approached the SUV, then retreated behind their squad cars. Police radio transmissions reported that shots were fired in the direction of the officers.

Air rescue was called to the area but later cancelled, according to police radio transmissions.

U.S. 27 was closed in both directions, as is Griffin Road and parts of I-595 in Weston.
