Push builds to bring civil charges against George Zimmerman
Over 1.5M petition signatures sent to Justice Department
Since the summer, there has been a push to bring a civil rights case against George Zimmerman after he was acquitted of second-degree murder and manslaughter in the shooting of Trayvon Martin.
Monday morning, the Justice Department received a petition with over 1.5 million signatures calling for civil rights charges against Zimmerman.
The NAACP claims that Martin's right to life was violated the night Zimmerman shot him. Ben Jealous, the president of the NAACP, tweeted a picture that showed dozens of boxes filled with petitions that were delivered to the Justice Department.
Jealous hopes that it will allow action to be called against Zimmerman.
